The challenge? Targeted digital outreach by profession was cost-prohibitive and beyond the campaign’s budget. FLEX responded with scrappy, effective tactics—leveraging our own networks, filtering hashtags on platforms like X, Instagram, and LinkedIn, and collaborating with national organizations and lawmakers already speaking out on the issue. This guerilla-style sourcing strategy allowed us to identify authentic, compelling storytellers in every state the client prioritized.
But sourcing was only the beginning. Many of the workers we found were hesitant to speak publicly. They feared backlash, job loss, or reputational harm. Our team built trust through one-on-one outreach, creating a safe space for each freelancer to share their story. From there, we carefully shaped each narrative into a public-facing asset, ensuring that every voice was treated with care and accuracy. These weren’t just soundbites—they were human portraits of what it means to choose independence in an economy that increasingly tries to regulate it away.
